CER Response to B.C. Flooding

November 19, 2021

On Wednesday, November 17, the Canada Energy Regulator (CER) activated its Emergency Operations Centre in response to severe flooding throughout the lower mainland in British Columbia. The CER regulates pipelines and facilities in the flood-affected areas and is working with companies to monitor impacts on CER-regulated infrastructure.

At this time, there have been no injuries or releases on CER-regulated infrastructure. Companies with CER-regulated infrastructure have not reported an incident causing harm to people or the environment due to the flooding. Companies have reported exposed pipeline infrastructure and precautionary shutdowns. More detailed public and media information on company response are available from the companies.

The CER’s first priority is the safety of the public, workers, CER staff, Indigenous communities and protection of the environment. The Emergency Operations Centre will remain active and continue to work with CER-regulated companies and government partners. Additional updates will be provided on the CER’s website and social media channels (Twitter Facebook LinkedIn).
