Inspection Officer Order BL-001-2023 issued to Trans Mountain

December 1, 2023

We issued Inspection Officer Order BL-001-2023 to Trans Mountain for non-compliances related to worker safety.

During a compliance verification activity on the Trans Mountain Expansion Pipeline near Burnaby, our Inspection Officers identified that Trans Mountain did not correctly determine which type of safety headwear workers should use.

As a result, we have issued an Inspection Officer Order requiring Trans Mountain to:

  • Conduct a hazard assessment to determine the appropriate type of safety headwear for all workers.
  • Describe how it identifies and monitors compliance with legal worker safety requirements and how they are integrated into the Safety Program.
  • Investigate if there are more non-compliances with other types of personal protective equipment in use.

We will continue to follow up with the company to ensure it complies with the Inspection Officer Order.

For a complete list of non-compliances and more information, view Reports on Compliance and Enforcement.
