CSA technical standards now available for free download 2024

April 29, 2024

The Western Regulators Forum has been working with the CSA Group to allow Canadians free access to important CSA technical standards that companies must follow to help keep pipelines safe. We are making them available to Canadians to ensure the standards regulated companies must follow are transparent and easily accessible.

The CER references several CSA standards in our Onshore Pipeline Regulations (OPR), the rules companies must follow when designing, constructing and operating a pipeline in Canada. The main standard we expect companies to follow, CSA Z662, is included in the full list of standards [PDF 95 KB] available for download.

You can download the standards for free from the CSA Group website. Follow these instructions to get started.

The Western Regulators Forum is made up of the Canada Energy Regulator (CER), BC Energy Regulator (BCER), Alberta Energy Regulator (AER), the Saskatchewan Ministry of Energy and Resources (MER Saskatchewan) and the Office of the Regulator of Oil and Gas Operations (OROGO) in the Northwest Territories.

The CER, BCER, AER and MER Saskatchewan are making a financial investment to provide Canadians with this free online access for a second year in a row.
