Pipeline companies regulated by the CER

The CER regulates companies that own and/or operate interprovincial or international pipelines. For financial regulatory purposes, the companies are divided into two groups:

• Group 1 consists of those pipeline companies with extensive systems and several third-party shippers; and
• Group 2 consists of the remaining pipeline companies that operate smaller, less complex pipelines with few or no third-party shippers.

* The assets owned by these companies have been designated under the Canadian Energy Regulator Act as orphan or orphan abandon under s.243 or s.244, respectively, because the company's owners or directors could not be located, or the company is insolvent, bankrupt or cannot be located.
