CER responds to an incident at NOVA Gas Transmission Ltd. compressor station
May 15, 2025
This week a worker was injured while at an NGTL compressor station near Stettler, AB. A small valve and piping connected to a ball valve became detached, releasing a high-pressure gas into the surrounding gravel, which was projected towards the worker causing injury. This incident was serious in nature and could have resulted in more severe consequences. As a result, we sent two Inspection Officers to conduct follow-up.
“Deploying Inspection Officers immediately to the work site allows us to evaluate safe work procedures, training effectiveness, worker competency and other factors immediately after an incident. It can help us understand if there are risks to other people conducting the same type of work at other facilities within the company,” explains Ryan Wells, Director of Safety and Damage Prevention. “The cause of the incident is still being determined, and we will continue to conduct oversight.”
Preventing harm and keeping people safe, including workers and members of the public, will always be our top priority.
Our thoughts are with the individual as they recover from their injury.
